Description

Sautéed white onions are the protagonist in this Tuscan country recipes. Thinly sliced white onions are sautéed in olive oil until they become soft, then caramelized to a golden.

This onion sauté can be used as a topping for bruschetta, a filling for sandwiches, or a flavorful garnish to pizza.

Ingredients
  • 3-4 Bulbs of White Onions
  • 1 spoon Sugar per 2-3 onions
  • Salt
  • Oil and Balsamic Vinegar
Preparation
  1. Put the onions into a pan with hot oil, salt and sugar.

    When the sugar caramels and the onions get brown, add water and let them cook very well by light fire (15-20 minutes).

    When they are nearly cooked, add some (balsamic) vinegar and by high fire let it evaporate.
