Tuscan-Style Sauté White Onions

White Onions Sauté

Sautéed white onions showcase the natural sweetness of white onions in a simple yet delicious preparation. Onions have been a fundamental ingredient in Italian cuisine for centuries. In this dish, thinly sliced white onions are sautéed in olive oil until they become soft and caramelized, releasing their natural sweetness and developing rich flavors.

This onion sauté can be used as a topping for bruschetta, a filling for sandwiches, or a flavorful addition to pasta dishes, soups, and stews. These onions are a delightful example of the rustic and vibrant flavors that define traditional Italian cooking.

  1. Put the onions into a pan with hot oil, salt and sugar.

When the sugar caramels and the onions get brown, add water and let them cook very well by light fire (15-20 minutes).

When they are nearly cooked, add some (balsamic) vinegar and by high fire let it evaporate.
