Chef Umberto welcomes you to his state-of-the-art kitchen for your strictly Kosher cooking classes with a vegetarian option too. Step into the kitchen, tie on your apron and learn the rich history of the Roman Ghetto, Kosher Rome while cooking up old world favorites.

Chef Umberto is not only a Chef he is an expert on Roman Jewish culture and cooking. He also uses only high-end products and produce sourced from local Roman farmers and Kosher artisans – officially inspected. The kitchen is your classroom and menus focus on traditional Roman Jewish recipes and Kosher food Rome. Each cooking class includes the preparation of an antipasto, first course – pasta or risotto, second course – fish, meat, or vegetarian, and dessert with a toast of Kosher wine.

All of the meat products are from the official Kosher butcher, and all cheeses are made under strict Kosher guidelines by Roman cheesemakers. The countryside around Rome provides a plentiful selection of vegetables and greens from asparagus and zucchini to artichokes, chicory and fennel as the year progresses. Along with Umberto in his Kosher kitchen you will enjoy fun and informative cooking classes, creating delicious, healthful dishes and menus that change with the seasons in Kosher Italy, Rome.

After each cooking class, everyone dines on the food that was prepared in the cooking class. Menus can be tailored to accommodate food allergies and dietary needs.

Program Includes:

  • Hands-on cooking class preparing a four-course menu: appetizer; first course – pasta, risotto or soup; second course – meat, fish or vegetarian; and dessert. Menus are Strictly Kosher and follow all of the traditional codes. Wine and beverages are not included; each guest can select Kosher wine, non-alcoholic drinks.

For Single Guests: If you are traveling on your own, please call us for the best group price. We are happy to welcome you into an already scheduled group.

Cooking Classes start at 9:30am and last 2 ½ hours.

If you would like to add on transfers to and from your hotel or cruise ship port ~ please let us know your group size and we will be happy to provide a price and reserve the transfer(s) for you. If you have a non-cooker who would like dine, but not cook, please let us know and we will also send you pricing.

Market, Ghetto Tour & Strictly Kosher Cooking Class

Meet Umberto for your early morning Market Tour to the famous Campo Dei Fiori market, that fills with vendors each morning selling fresh fruits, vegetables, spices and more. ‘All roads lead to Rome,’ as Italian farmers and producers bring their best to the Eternal City each day. Umberto explains what’s in season and how the Roman Jews use each ingredient in cooking.

Continue through the Roman Jewish Ghetto neighborhood and learn about the history and traditions of this fascinating quarter of Rome from your local guide who grew up there. In fact, even the Pope is a fan of the pizza ebraica, literally Jewish pizza, an almond-raisin sweet bread that he orders specifically from the ghetto pasticciere. Tour lasts approximately one hour.

Then, tie on your apron and head into the kitchen to get cooking! Your hands-on cooking class includes the preparation of a four-course menu from appetizer to dessert. Lunch follows on the foods prepared in class. Wine and drinks not included.
