Walk in the shadow of Mount Etna and Monte Serra as you cross Sicily’s most important wine maker in Catania. The family-operated vineyard specializes in Sicilian wine since the late 1880’s. The wines are long-lived and are examples of the best in eastern Sicily wine region, thanks to their knowledge, passion, and respect for the place and terrior.
As you traverse the rich Etna mountainside observe the diverse viticulture characteristics of the vineyards set on the northern, eastern and southern slopes of the volcano. The family is attentive to the complexities of climate and soil as contributors to expressing the real essence of indigenous grapes like Nerello Macales, Nerrello Cappuccio, Carricante, Minella, and Nero d’Avola.
The wines have boasted annual awards in the last 20 years in the most important national and international competitions. Most recently they earned 50th place on ‘Top 100 World Cellar Selection’ (part of Top Rated 100 World Wines) by Wine Enthusiast magazine. Along with top marks from wine critic Robert Parker and highly recommended in wine guides like Slow Food Wine and Gambero Rosso.
Our wine tour takes you right to the heart of the family’s winemaking operation, a business and passion that has been handed down from generation to generation. Today Giuseppe and sons, Antonio and Salvino run the company. Together with your expert guide you will explore the secrets of what makes the vineyard one the greatest wines in Italy and abroad. You’ll be escorted through vineyard with vines over a century old. Tour continues to the palmento or ancient grape stone press dating back to the 1700s where the first grapes began their journey so long ago. Following the tour, step into the antique cellar with a private tasting of four exceptional wines including the award-winning Etna Rosso D.O.C. Nibble on a plethora of regional delicacies including, homemade breads, several local cheeses, salami, local olives, fresh cherry tomatoes from the garden, and sun-dried tomatoes in olive oil.
