The Schulhof Collection At The Guggenheim Museum, Venice

“Art is almost like a religion. It is what I believe in. It is what gives my life dimension beyond the material world we live in.”
~Hannelore B. Schulhof

Peggy Guggenheim was dedicated to the advancement of 20th century art and the museum is housed in what was once her Venice home: an unfinished 18th-century palace on the Grand Canal called the Palazzo Venier dei Leoni. The Museum is primarily the personal collection of Peggy Guggenheim herself, including major works by some of the greatest artists of the 20th century.

This brand new gift from the Schulhof family includes eighty-three important works including paintings, sculptures and works on paper of Italian, European and American artists after 1945. Works by Afro, Alberto Burri, Anthony Caro, Jean Dubuffet, Ellsworth Kelly, Anselm Kiefer, Mark Rothko, Frank Stella, Cy Twombly, Andy Warhol and more will reside permanently in Venice, and extend the museum heritage to the 1970s and even 1980s.

This tour includes three hours with expert guide.

Palazzo Grassi & Punta Della Dogana

Don’t miss the 2013 exhibits at the Palazzo Grassi & Punta Della Dogana! François Pinault took over the buildings after the death of FIAT’s legendary Gianni Agnelli and has dedicated these magnificent spaces to the promotion of modern art.  Ranked first among the most powerful people in modern art, Pinault owns one of the largest collections of modern art worldwide.  The upcoming show for the spring of 2013 at Palazzo Grassi will focus on Rudolf Stingel, whose works have been displayed not only in Venice, but also worldwide in Chicago, New York, Berlin, Tokyo, Edinburgh, Paris, Geneva and more.  Born in 1956 in Merano, South Tyrol, Stingel moved to New York in 1987 to pursue his modern art techniques, though he continues to stay connected with his northern Italy hometown.

The Punta Della Dogana exhibit will be related to the 2013 Biennale’s theme of Il Palazzo Enciclopedico ~ The Encyclopedic Palace. This tour lasts three hours and includes visits to both Palazzo Grassi and the Dogana with expert guide.

Murano: Past & Present

The island of Murano in the Venetian Lagoon is home to the most famous glassmakers in the world. Cobalt blue and gold, rose and silver and an entire spectrum of colors swirl together to make statuettes, champagne glasses, and chandeliers at the expert hands of Murano’s artisans. Your comprehensive guided tour includes visits to two Murano glassmakers: one that is strictly traditional and one with a modern touch to the traditional style.

Your first stop takes you inside a glass atelier renowned for classic Rezzonico chandeliers, Baroque-style goblets, crystal gold glasses, colored chalices with twisted stems, and more. See the process of blowing the molten glass into shapes, learn the history of this traditional craft and experience the personalization that each maker has brought to the craft since 1295 AD when an official decree ordered Venice’s glassmakers to move to the island of Murano.

Continue with your guide to a second glass atelier to see modern and unique pieces, based on the personal style of the maestro vetraio, master glassmaker. Each piece is the direct expression of technical and creative evolution and your tour provides you with an exciting firsthand experience that you won’t find anywhere else!

This tour lasts three hours with guide. Water taxi fee not included and payable directly to your boat driver.
